Alberi pieni zeppi di bruchi urticanti nel cortile della scuola elementare «Capuozzo» di Marghera. Inizialmente, per qualche giorno, erano apparsi solo nei rami di un abete, poi anche in quelli accanto, contagiandoli. Il risultato? Nove bambini, una maestra e un paio di vigili del fuoco, nella tarda mattinata di ieri sono finiti al pronto soccorso dell’ospedale dell’Angelo con segni rossi sulle mani e irritazioni sulla pelle dopo essere passati accanto al «falò» che Veritas (la società pubblica che si occupa della gestione del verde) stava facendo in cortile per eliminare le piante malate.
Ai bambini è stata diagnosticata una forte irritazione da processionaria (i bruchi appunto). Tutti sono stati dimessi, qualcuno con una crema da usare nei prossimi giorni. «Gli alunni fortunatamente stanno bene – spiega la preside della scuola Aurora Zanon – ci ha chiamato il primario dell’Usl 12 per rassicurarci. La gestione della cosa è stata però un po’ complicata. Diversi bambini, dopo essere passati in giardino di ritorno dall’attività fisica in palestra, hanno iniziato ad avvertire un intenso prurito agli occhi, difficoltà respiratorie e fastidi alle mani. Abbiamo subito avvertito il Suem, la Municipalità e i genitori. Gli alunni che si sentivano male sono stati portati in ospedale. Nei prossimi giorni la scuola rimarrà chiusa perché la disinfestazione si concluda senza gli studenti, non voglio che accada di nuovo».
Le larve, di colore verde, erano ben visibili negli alberi della scuola fin dalla scorsa settimana tant’è che l’istituto aveva avvertito Veritas per attivare la disinfestazione e nei giorni scorsi alcuni tecnici erano passati ad iniettare un veleno negli alberi, per far sì che arrivasse ai bruchi impedendone la riproduzione. Nella mattinata di ieri stavano tagliando i rami infestati per bruciarli. Ed è proprio in quel momento che la classe è passata. «Un tempismo sfortunato – spiegano da Veritas – si è alzato un colpo di vento che ha spinto verso i bambini alcuni aghi dell’albero e probabilmente parte della peluria dei bruchi stessi».
Il risultato è che, una volta rientrati in classe molti di loro si sono sentiti male. «Non li avremmo di certo fatti uscire in cortile se avessimo saputo del potenziale problema – dice Zanon – nessuno ci aveva spiegato che anche l’operazione di disinfestazione era potenzialmente pericolosa. Nel pomeriggio per sicurezza abbiamo fatti uscire dal retro gli alunni rimasti a scuola per evitare altre reazioni allergiche. Quello che ci è accaduto dev’essere un’occasione per avvertire i miei colleghi delle altre scuole. So che la disinfestazione verrà fatta anche altrove. Quindi consiglio loro di prepararsi in modo adeguato».
Ieri sul posto sono intervenuti subito i medici, i vigili del fuoco, la polizia e l’Arpav. Due bambini sono stati portati via in ambulanza, una maestra e altr alunni sono arrivati qualche ora dopo al pronto soccorso, seguiti da due vigili del fuoco. Tutti e otto alle 16 erano già stati dimessi.
«Ho chiesto un monitoraggio in tutte le scuole – dice Gianfranco Bettin, presidente della Municipalità di Marghera – e saranno controllati anche i parchi cittadini e alcuni luoghi frequentati dai bambini. I bruchi sono un inconveniente di questi giorni di bel tempo e alte temperature ma non possiamo permettere che accada di nuovo, specialmente con bambini così piccoli».
