Il ministro dell’Interno, Anna Maria Cancellieri, ha annunciato che il voto per eleggere i nuovi Consigli regionali di Lazio, Lombardia e Molise avverrà contestualmente nella stessa giornata. La prima data utile è il 27 gennaio 2013.
I Consigli di Lazio e Lombardia sono stati sciolti anticipatamente dopo gli scandali giudiziari che hanno coinvolto alcuni componenti delle due maggioranze di centrodestra. Il Molise, sempre governato dal centrodestra, torna invece al voto dopo che il Consiglio di Stato ha annullato le elezioni regionali del 2011 per vizi formali nella presentazione delle liste. Le elezioni in Lombardia, Lazio e Molise ad aprile, accorpate con le politiche in un unico election day nazionale, avrebbero fatto risparmiare allo Stato circa 100 milioni di euro, ma il governo ha valutato che così oltre 15 milioni di cittadini sarebbero rimasti troppo a lungo senza governo regionale
